Bridegroom:Bridegroom V, B: Medieval Times and Reformation Era
Анотація
Encyclopedia article on the biblical metaphor "bride". The article stresses that all the various biblical texts employing the nuptial imagery (Isa 54:5, 62:5, Songs, 1 Kgs 3:11, 2 Cor 11:2, Eph 5:22-32, Matt 25:1-13 and Rev 19:7-9, 21:2.10) conflated in medieval times. Different players put the emphasis differently, either on an ecclesiological, a soteriological, an eschatological or a mariological interpretation. In the Reformation Era Luther understands the bridegroom of Eph 5 in soteriological terms, whereas the bridegroom of the Songs is interpreted completely politically.
