Matsko-Demydenko I. Housing stratification of the population of Ukraine and some issues of state social policy
Анотація
The article is dedicated to the problem of housing stratification of modern Ukraine’s population. The set of socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics of owners, joint owners and tenants of the occupied housing has been analyzed. The empirical base was the data of the project of the Institute of Sociology NAS of Ukraine “Ukrainian Society: Monitoring of Social Changes” (n=1800), as well as information from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The contours of the social structure of Ukrainian society that characterize the considerable variability of living conditions of the population of Ukraine are analyzed. The most differentiating features in the outlined context were: type of settlement, age of the respondent, financial status of the family. More poor citizens were found among those living in communal conditions, a greater percentage of poor people are among residents of individual apartments and individual homes, more wealthy are among citizens living in rented housing. The sole owners of apartments after privatization, as well as purchases, appear less in Kyiv than in other types of settlements, and mostly in large cities. In Kiev, a more common option is to be a co-owner of a home. Single-family homeowners are more likely to be found in rural areas as a result of donation, and housing rental statistics are higher in cities. It is found that the number of those who have the status of homeowner decreases in older age. The number of tenants is also decreasing in the middle and especially older age groups. However, there is a clear tendency with age to increase the number of sole proprietors after their privatization. The fact is that adulthood comes from generations who, unlike the generation of their grandparents, did not participate massively in the post-Soviet privatization of housing.Priority directions of Ukrainian housing policy are outlined, as well as prospects for further research on this issue. It is addressed to scientists (sociologists, economists, demographers, students, civil servants).
