The Ukrainian Non-Fiction Book Market Development Peculiarities In The Context Of A Full-Scale War

Introduction. Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has become a determining factor in the transformation of all spheres of public life, including Ukrainian book publishing. It is important to study the development of the non-fiction book market in these conditions, as changes in demand for non-fiction literature may reflect current social needs to analyse historical events, understand current challenges, and find ways to overcome crisis phenomena. Relevance of the study. The relevance of the study is due to the need for a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the war on the functioning and development of the Ukrainian book market, in particular the non-fiction segment. The war has made adjustments to the production processes of publishing houses, logistics, consumer preferences and the overall economic situation in the country. The purpose of this article is to identify and analyse the key trends and peculiarities of the development of the non-fiction literature market in Ukraine in the context of a full-scale war, to identify the main challenges and prospects for its further development. Methodology. Theoretical and empirical methods were used. The entire scientific procedure was based on a social and communication approach. Literature analysis, content analysis, observation, and forecasting were carried out. The research period was from March 2022 to January 2025. The necessary data was collected from open sources, digital analytics sites and social media platforms. Results. The study identified a number of key trends in the development of the Ukrainian non-fiction book market in the context of a full-scale war. There is an increase in demand for historical literature, memoirs, military prose, and books analysing current socio-political processes. The war has also had a significant impact on the activities of publishing houses and bookstores, forcing them to adapt to the new conditions. Conclusions. The results of the study are of great theoretical and practical importance. They allow for a deeper understanding of the impact of extreme wartime conditions on the development of cultural industries, including the non-fiction book market. The findings can be used to develop strategies for the support and development of Ukrainian book publishing, as well as to predict further trends in the market development in the post-war recovery.
