On the basis of archival materials and other sources, an assessment of the activitiy of the Chernihiv Bishop Ivan Pavlovskyi is given and its influence on the formation of the UAOC is analyzed. Conclusions. According to archival documents, Ivan Pavlovskyi was the archbishop of Chernihiv region from September 17, 1922 to December 1, 1926, that is for more than four years. The analysis of documents showed that during this time he turned Chernihiv region into a powerful religious center of Ukrainian autocephaly, and the Saints Boris and Hlib cathedral in Chernihiv became a cathedral of the Chernihiv eparchy of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Ivan Pavlovskyi also raised the national consciousness and dignity of the Ukrainian people through his religious activities. That is why the Soviet government, which feared the restoration of an independent Ukrainian state, made every effort to destroy this faithful son of the Ukrainian Church.
