German Abstract: Die globale Finanzkrise hat die Notwendigkeit der angemessenen Regulierung des Banken- und Finanzsektors verdeutlicht. In diesem Zusammenhang wird haufig auf die gesamtwirtschaftliche Bedeutung der Stabilitat des Finanzsystems verwiesen. Dieser Beitrag geht zunachst der Frage nach, was unter Finanzstabilitat zu verstehen ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund erfolgt eine Untersuchung der jungsten Reformen der Bankenaufsicht im Hinblick auf die Verbesserung der Stabilitat des Finanzsystems. Es zeigt sich, dass nicht alle Masnahmen geeignet sind, die Finanzstabilitat zu erhohen. English Abstract: The world financial crisis has shown the necessity of an appropriate regulation of banking institutes and the financial sector. In this context, it is often referred to the importance of the stability of the financial system for the economy as a whole. This contribution first goes into the matter of financial stability. Given this background, there are analyzed the current reforms of the banking supervision with regard to an improvement of financial system stability. It is shown that not all provisions are suitable to advance financial stability.
