The purpose of this article is to identify the geographical features of the deployment of Ukrainian military units as of late 2019, analyze their impact on the country's defense capability, and identify key trends in the territorial distribution of forces. Particular attention is given to a detailed analysis of the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units, their territorial concentration, and the correlation between geographical location and military effectiveness. The study also examines the importance of the geographical factor in the context of military strategy and its impact on the security situation in Ukraine, which is particularly relevant in the context of the ongoing armed conflict with the Russian Federation. Method. The research methodology includes an analysis of available literature, official data on the deployment and operation of military units. Cartographic methods are used for visualization and analysis of the territorial distribution of military units, which allows not only identifying areas of concentration but also assessing their strategic significance. A geographical approach is applied to evaluate the influence of natural and geographical conditions on the location of military units, particularly in determining strategic zones of concentration and optimizing deployment locations considering modern threats and challenges. The results of the study have identified the main regions with a high concentration of military units, analyzed their location in relation to geographical and administrative boundaries, and determined the key factors influencing the choice of deployment sites. Based on the results obtained, methodological recommendations are proposed for optimizing the deployment of military units, which will enhance their operational capability and overall effectiveness in the face of current challenges. Special attention is given to regions that require increased military presence, as well as those that are particularly important in the context of national security. The scientific novelty of the work lies in its comprehensive approach to assessing the geographical factors influencing the country's defense capability. Despite the growing relevance of the topic, there is still a lack of detailed studies on the territorial distribution of military units in Ukraine. This study fills this gap by proposing new approaches to military infrastructure planning, taking into account the peculiarities of geographical location and strategic requirements. The practical significance of the results lies in their potential use for improving the management efficiency of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, planning the development of military infrastructure, and ensuring national security.
