Endogenous Growth, Technological Progress, and the Convergence Problem in the Digital Economy
Анотація
The paper traces the evolution of growth theory from exogenous frameworks to approaches treating productivity, technological progress, and innovation as endogenous. It considers early endogenous models – AK-type specifications and models with knowledge-spillover externalities. The main contentions in the convergence debate are outlined, with attention to neoclassical assumptions and their alignment with empirical evidence. The analysis clarifies why absolute convergence is not automatic, linking this to a weakening of diminishing marginal returns and to the role of policy. The relevance of these mechanisms for interpreting growth dynamics in the digital economy is also discussed.
