International legal regulation of anti-Russian sanctions and its impact on the formation of Ukraine’s foreign policy identity

This research aims to analyse the legal frameworks and mechanisms used by the international community to impose sanctions on Russia and evaluate their influence on the development of Ukraine's foreign policy identity. The examination of international legal instruments, frameworks from international bodies, and domestic laws was conducted, utilising qualitative legal analysis with quantitative macroeconomic data. The findings demonstrate that sanctions have significantly influenced Ukraine's foreign policy, redirecting its emphasis towards deeper cooperation with Western entities like the EU and NATO. The sanctions imposed economic pressure on Russia and considerably reinforced Ukraine's diplomatic standing globally, affirming its dedication to international law and human rights. Sanctions accelerated Ukraine's conformity with democratic principles and reinforced its national identity. However, obstacles persist in reconciling these foreign demands with Ukraine's domestic political and economic stability, as evidenced by considerable economic disruptions. This research emphasises that sanctions serve as both a coercive instrument and a catalyst for the development of Ukraine's foreign policy. Conclusions were drawn about how the international legal regulation of anti-Russian sanctions affects the processes of forming Ukraine’s identity in the international arena and what strategic steps can be taken to strengthen the country’s position in the global political space.
