Hygienic assessment of glauconite using for neutralization of substandard drugs

Natural ecosorbent glauconite was proposed for neutralization of contaminated ob-jects (Manenko and Khopyak, 2001; Manenko et al., 2007, 2009, 2010; Khopyak et al. 2014). The objective of our study was to hygienic assessment the possibility of using of natural absorptive agent glauconite for neutralization of substandard medicines in the pharmaceutical company “Lvivdialik ” (Lviv, Ukraine). Wastes of substandard drugs produced in pharmaceutical company “Lvivdialik ” belong to the II-IV hazard class ac-cording to index of toxicity and cumulative hazard index. Neutralization of substandard toxic and moderately toxic liquid medications, such as pyridoxine chloride (IV class of hazard), ascorbic acid (III class of hazard), glucose (III class of hazard), sodium chlo-ride (IV class of hazard), sodium adenosine triphosphate (III class of hazard), cyanoco-balamin (III class of hazard), Reopoliglyukin (III class of hazard) Plasmol (IV class of hazard) and Microcyde (III class of hazard) is possible by dilution with water in 20-25 times and then pouring out to the sewer. Microcyde previously should be boiled for hour. Substandard medicines of II class of hazard (gentamicin sulfate, thiamine chlo-ride, Yonoglyuk) were inactivated by mixing with glauconite. Gentamicin sulfate was pre-treated with hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid, and boiled for one hour. After neutralization boiled mixture by glauconite, total hazard index of drugs mixture was in-creased to 10.7, indicating a high adsorption capacity of glauconite. The proposed method of neutralization of substandard medicines by mixture with glauconite can be effectively complement to the methods of neutralization of substandard drugs.
