The impact of the destruction of railway infrastructure on the territorial integrity and mobility of the population of Ukraine
Анотація
This article examines the impact of the destruction of railway infrastructure on the territorial integrity and mobility of Ukraine’s population in the context of military challenges since 2022. It explores the role of railway infrastructure as a key element in fostering spatial connectivity and interregional transport links. The importance of railway infrastructure in maintaining population mobility is analysed, particularly in the context of evacuation, humanitarian transport, the movement of military resources and the functioning of the medical support system. The scale and geography of damage to the railway network are characterised, and its impact on changes in the transport accessibility of regions and the transformation of the spatial structure of transport flows is determined. It has been established that damage to individual infrastructure elements leads to a disruption of interregional links, a reduction in the level of spatial integration of the territory, and complications for population mobility. The necessity of restoring and modernising the railway infrastructure as an important prerequisite for ensuring the territorial integrity of the state is substantiated. Prospects for enhancing the resilience of the transport system and optimising the operation of the railway network managed by JSC “Ukrainian Railways” in the context of Ukraine’s post-war recovery are identified
