Kosheliev Artem

Анотація

The article examines the process of creating an image of historical figures in the public consciousness of Americans during the first half of the twentieth century. The author used biographical films that were shot in Hollywood from 1909 to 1940 as the basis of the analysis. The article examines the degree of development of the movie industry in the United States in the early twentieth century and outlines the popularity and accessibility of this type of leisure for ordinary citizens. In the USA were created all conditions for the formation of the image of a historical personality among a wide audience. The author of the article concluded that biographical work of any format (including cinema) is both a construct of its author and the socio−cultural reality in which he or she lived. Specific examples show that biographical works depicting the lives of historical figures with a particular pattern of behavior create their image in the public consciousness. But at the same time, these works serve as a source for learning about public preferences, values or experiences.
