THE CHILDREN OF LIGHT AND THE CHILDREN OF DARKNESS: ETHICAL DIMENSIONS OF CHRISTIAN REALISM
Анотація
The article shows the concept of "Children of Light" and "Children of Darkness", which is an ethical dimension of Christian realism. It is noted that Reinhold Niebuhr and the ideas of Christian realism had an influence on the social and political thought of the mid-twentieth century. The historical progress of society in search of individual freedoms is analyzed from the period of feudalism to the period of democratic capitalism. According to Niebuhr, it is found that "children of light" subordinate their desires to the common good and the general laws, and "children of darkness" are guided by selfish desires and they are the greatest threat to human society. It was found that the greatest problem of "children of light" is idealism and naivety, and the greatest danger of "children of darkness" is moral cynicism and the desire for power. Thereby Christians, as leaders of the positive society transformation process, need realism as their own ideological position.
