Theoretical foundations of the meso-level impact of artificial intelligence as a disruptive technology in industrial economics

The article examines the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on the industrial economy at the meso level. The study addresses the ongoing debate on whether AI leads merely to operational optimization or generates disruptive structural changes in industrial systems. The purpose of the research is to identify the disruptive potential of selected AI technologies from the perspective of industrial economics. It is argued that centralized AI-based management systems, AI platforms for coordinating distributed production systems, and AI-driven industrial analytics and forecasting systems induce structural shifts in the spatial-organizational configuration of production. The disruptive effect is manifested in the separation of managerial, coordination, and analytical functions from the local production environment, the emergence of supraterritorial interaction frameworks, and the reduction of transaction costs related to management and coordination. The findings suggest that the disruptive character of AI technologies in industrial economics should be interpreted not only in market terms but also in a structural and spatial dimension.
