APPLICATION OF PROJECT-BASED METHODS OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES TO STUDENTS OF NON-LANGUAGE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Анотація

This article proves that in the educational process, project technology is implemented through a certain period of students’ project activity. Design in the context of foreign language learning is understood as creative educational and cognitive communicative activity of a foreign language direction, which is problematic in the form of presenting educational material, practical in the way of its application, intellectually rich in content and independent in the nature of acquiring skills, abilities and knowledge. It is noted that students’ project activity is implemented in stages, and each stage is detailed to clearly define the directions, goals, tasks, as well as methods and techniques for implementing each step. Attention is drawn to the fact that in the process of learning English, the project method creates conditions for the application of language knowledge in real life situations, which significantly increases the effectiveness of assimilation and consolidation of the studied material. It is this approach that allows solving an important didactic task - to make the educational process not only cognitive, but also practically oriented. Thanks to the use of projects, English lessons are transformed into a platform for intercultural communication and mutual understanding. It is argued that project technology is primarily aimed at developing students’ independence, as well as stimulating their intellectual, cognitive and creative potential. In addition, this approach makes it possible to organize the educational process in accordance with the principles of the competency-based approach. It is concluded that project activities are characterized by a high level of communicative interaction, active participation of students and a creative approach to solving educational tasks. The main advantage of this technology is that during the project, students have the opportunity to show interest in the topic, deepen their knowledge in the chosen field, apply in practice the research skills acquired during their studies at a higher education institution, and also develop the skills of effective teamwork.
