Evolution of Perturbations in Circular Couette Flow at Subcritical Taylor Numbers
Анотація
A finite-difference solution of Navier-Stokes equations is employed to demonstrate that axisymmetrical perturbations imposed onto a circular Couette flow at Ta < Tacr are restructured into structures typical of Taylor vortices; this is followed by rapid damping of the latter over a time of the order of 0.01 cylinder rotations. Here, if the initial perturbation is sufficiently strong, the magnitude of the local shear stress undergoes a short-period change along the axis.
