FEATURES OF PUBLIC MANAGEMENT OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN NATURAL PROTECTED AREAS OF GREECE

Анотація

The article examines the features of public management of tourism development in protected areas of Greece, in particular in national parks and areas included in the Natura 2000 network. The activities of the Ministry of Tourism of Greece in public management of tourism development in protected areas are analyzed. The main functions of national and local agencies related to the management of tourism development in protected areas are systematized. The functions of national agencies in Greece are described as the formation of state policy and legislation; management and control; preservation of natural tourism resources; monitoring and reporting. The most important functions of local agencies in Greece are analyzed: development of tourist infrastructure; organization of eco-parks and visitor centers; monitoring compliance with environmental standards; cooperation with public organizations; promotion and marketing. The role of protected areas in the development of sustainable tourism, raising the environmental awareness of tourists and ensuring the preservation of biodiversity was analyzed. Particular attention was paid to the impact of ecological tourism, which is one of the priorities, on the development of local communities and the economy of the country as a whole. The national parks of Greece, where tourism in protected areas is developing, are considered, in particular Olympus National Park, Vikos-Aoos National Park. The importance of international cooperation in the framework of eco-tourism, in particular with the countries of the European Union, and the importance of protecting natural tourism resources for sustainable tourism were also emphasized. It has been analyzed that protected areas are a source of resources for local communities, as they support jobs in ecotourism, fishing, and medicinal plant collection, which contributes to the economic development of the regions. It is characterized that in many areas where national parks are located, ecotourism is one of the main sources of income, allowing local communities in Greece to preserve natural tourism resources.
