Graph Analysis of Ukrainian Airport Network Change

Анотація

During the last decade 2014-2024 Ukrainian airport network has changed significantly. The war in Ukraine in 2022 lead to totally closes airspace of Ukraine for any civilian use. During 2022 many Ukrainian territories have been under occupancy. Military actions caused significant damage to the ground equipment used for air navigation service provision. Ground air navigation infrastructure and large international airports have been absolutely destroyed. Destroyed ground facilities affect the local air transportation network of Ukraine and will cause to significant increase in time of travel to be in touch with civil aviation services. The main objective of the paper is to analyze Ukrainian airport network changes with a graph analysis. Network change is studied in three scenarios based on network configuration in 2013, 2014, and 2024. Nodes weighted centrality and airport service area are used as main indicators of network analysis. Results of analysis indicate that the service area of Odesa airport has increased above 15% and Zaporizhya by 13%.
