Solar Energy Advancement in Ukraine’s Households: is the Feed-In Tariff Economically Justified?
Анотація
The paper deals with assessing the effectiveness of investment projects for constructing solar power plants in Ukraine’s households. The state policy measures to stimulate solar energy development and its influence on the rapid deployment of solar power plants in Ukraine’s households are analyzed. The cost of electricity generation, the rate of the feed-in tariff, and the payback period of investment projects for the construction of solar power plants with an installed capacity of 30 kW were estimated. Calculations show that the payback period of investment projects at the current feed-in tariff rate in Ukraine is 5.1 years. This payback period provides a quick return on start-up investment and a significant income for households’ owners from the sale of surplus electricity not consumed for their purposes. Based on the analysis of the payback period of such projects in other countries, recommendations are given for revising energy policy, particularly in reducing the feed-in tariff to a rate that will ensure a payback period of investment projects not less than eight years.
