<strong>Abstract</strong> The mergers and acquisitions of transnational banks as the main forms of consolidation of banking capital are characterized, the main motives of mergers and acquisitions of transnational banks at the present stage of development of the world economy are analyzed, the prerequisites for modern consolidation of banks are investigated, the main factors that determine the international mergers and acquisitions of transnational banks are analyzed, a comparative characteristic of the types of banking associations and the main types of consolidation in the financial market are given, the largest mergers of European banks in the early XXI century are provided, and the largest mergers and acquisitions of banking institutions in the world. <strong>Анотація</strong> Охарактеризовано злиття і поглинання транснаціональних банків як основних форм консолідації банківського капіталу, проаналізовано основні мотиви злиттів та поглинань транснаціональних банків на сучасному етапі розвитку світової економіки, досліджено передумови сучасної консолідації банків, проаналізовано основні чинники які зумовлюють міжнародні злиття і поглинання транснаціональних банків, наведено порівняльну характеристику видів банківських об’єднань та основні типи консолідації на фінансовому ринку, наведено найбільші злиття європейських банків на початку ХХІ ст. та найбільші злиття і поглинання банківських установ у світі.
