ECONOMIC SECURITY AS A DETERMINANT OF THE EVOLUTION OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS

The article examines economic security as a key determinant in the evolution of contemporary international economic relations. It argues that amid rising geopolitical instability, sanctions regimes, the fragmentation of global value chains, and intensified competition for strategic resources, the security imperative has become a decisive factor in shaping states’ external economic strategies. The study demonstrates a shift in the logic of international economic interaction from a model centered on efficiency, liberalization, and cost minimization toward a framework based on strategic autonomy, risk diversification, resilience, and managed interdependence. The research analyzes how economic security influences the structure of the international division of labor, foreign investment flows, trade policies, and regional integration processes. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of global governance mechanisms and the increasing politicization of economic relations under conditions of systemic uncertainty. The paper substantiates that economic security is no longer a derivative or auxiliary category but is gradually becoming a system-forming element of international economic relations. The findings contribute to a conceptual rethinking of how security considerations shape global economic development by clarifying the mechanisms through which risk, vulnerability, and resilience increasingly influence trade, investment, and production decisions. The article shows how security-driven priorities reconfigure patterns of interdependence, alter incentives within global value chains, and affect the architecture of international economic cooperation and regulation. On this basis, it provides a stronger theoretical platform for further research into the interaction between economic interdependence and national resilience strategies, including the conditions under which interdependence becomes a source of stability versus a channel of strategic exposure in the evolving global order. Methodologically, the study is based on a systemic and structural analysis of contemporary global economic transformations, comparative assessment of national strategies, and synthesis of theoretical approaches to economic security and international political economy. The findings contribute to a conceptual rethinking of the role of security considerations in global economic development and provide a theoretical foundation for further research on the relationship between economic interdependence and national resilience in the evolving global order.
